THE old and the new do battle on day one of the Century 21 Cup tonight from 6 o'clock at the Bell Park Sports Centre.
Traditional powerhouse, the North Geelong Warriors starts its defence of the trophy against relative newcomer the Breakwater Eagles, who _ as Geelong Regional Football Association champion _ will represent the amateur competition.
In the later match, foundation member Corio welcomes Century 21 Cup debutant Surf Coast Soccer Club to top flight local football.
The Warriors are likely to field a team brimming with youth to take on the Eagles, who will be relying on their ageing, but enduringly prolific, strike force of Mark Linney and Charlie Fitzpatrick.
In a delightful demonstration of the role that the Cup plays in the local fabric, Breakwater will be looking to striker Linney for a winning touch but he is likely to find resistance in the form of the sons of many he started his career playing alongside.
Shaping up as the player to watch during the tournament, Warriors striker Daniel Dragicevic has spent much of the pre-season at the Melbourne Knights, adding considerable muscle.
All eyes will be on the eagerly anticipated debut of the Surf Coast, its appearance an endorsement of the game's growth outside its historic strongholds.

Girls Telstra Football Anytime Program
TELSTRA FOOTBALL ANYTIME PROGRAM
Football Federation Australia, Football Federation Victoria & Geelong Soocer Club are pleased to announce that a girls only Telstra Football Anytime (TFA) program is coming to Geelong
On the back of the success of the Qantas Socceroos, the Matilda’s, the Olyroos and the Hyundai A League interest in football is at an all time high. Football Federation Australia is committed to giving children of any ability the opportunity to experience the fantastic sport of football through the opportunity to participate in TFA and build on the interest and enthusiasm created within the community.
TFA is an introductory football program for girls aged 5 – 12 years and is being delivered nationally through local football clubs. Coordinated by Geelong Soocer Club and using a qualified head coach and volunteer program supervisors the program encourages children to experience and participate in football in a fun game based environment.
For new players and those in their initial playing years, TFA is an ideal football participation program as it is ‘game-centred’ and encourages children to learn and develop through playing the small-sided games and age appropriate activities with a particular emphasis on enjoyment.
For a cost of just $66, children participate in the program and receive a kit of equipment that enables them to participate in football beyond the formal conclusion of the program.
The kit includes:
· a Nike football
· an equipment bag
· shin pads
· markers
· a drink bottle with a squeezy mini ball
